2008 Bare Root Wholesale List

Our wholesale hosta list is published primarily for nurseries and landscape professionals. We require a minimum of ten plants per each hosta cultivar for our Bare Root plants. We also require a $350.00 total order for first time customers. All our “Hostas in Pots” can also be shipped bare root at no additional charge!

If you are looking for hostas for your own garden please return to our Home page and check out our Retail Hostas, where the selection is large and the minimums are small.

Newest and Best Bare Root Hostas. Order in multiples of 10.

Our Bare Root Hostas have been grown out to fill a one quart or larger pot and are ready to be lined out in the field or moved directly into a one gallon or larger container. These will not be divided. Our heavily rooted hostas are often ready to sell in a month after potting. You can order them in multiples of ten. They can be shipped dormant in early spring or any time throughout the growing season. Hostas shipped north in the spring will have the advantage of having as much as an extra month’s growth over locally grown plants because of our longer growing season. All our “Hostas in Pots” can also be shipped bare root at no additional charge!

‘Blueberry Tart’ (Solberg 2005) - (‘Blue Cadet’ X ‘Fall Bouquet’) - Small, (8” X 22”) This rapid growing little hosta has light blue, distinctively pinched leaves with good substance. It makes a cute, tight mound perfect for today’s smaller hosta gardens and blooms in July with small, pinky, purple flowers. $10

‘Corkscrew’ (Solberg 2003) - (‘Tortifrons’ X ‘One Man’s Treasure’) - Small, (9” X 22”) A true hybridizing breakthrough. The leaves are dark green and contorted like ‘Tortifrons’ but unlike its parent, it grows very well making a full clump quickly. It makes a unique clump of upright and arching, twisted, shiny dark green leaves with lavender flowers in September and October, frequently on forked scapes. Winner of 2002 Best Seedling Award at First Look. $12

‘Dragon Fire’ (Lefever, Solberg 2005) - (‘Riptide’ seedling) - Large, (26” X 48”) This is the rare, very large red-petioled hosta hybridizers crave. Its large blue-green wax coated leaves are reminiscent of the shape of ‘Dragon Wings’ also from Wyatt Lefever. Purple scapes with lavender flowers in July top off this medieval beast. $12

‘Ginsu Knife’ (Solberg 2002) - (‘Irongate Supreme’ X ‘Green Fountain’) - Medium, (18” X 28”) Imagine a wide, irregularly cream-colored margined hosta with serrate margins and white fragrant flowers in August. The leaves that fountain from the very upright clump have large undulations and some twisting. Unique in color and habit, it is great in a container or in the garden. $10

‘Ocean Isle’ (Chopko 2006) - (Sport of ‘El Dorado’) - Large, (22” X 48”) This impressive hosta has long, thin pointed, wavy blue-green leaves with a wide, bright gold margin. The leaf center becomes a shiny, rich green color by mid-summer. It has very good substance and a high vein count. Light lavender flowers in June and July. Winner of Best Sport at 2004 First Look. $15

‘Orange Marmalade’ PP#16,742 (Solberg 2002) - (Sport of ‘Paul’s Glory’) - Medium-Large, (18” X 42”) Looking for a hosta guaranteed to “fly out of the nursery”? This one has all year appeal, attractive when it emerges with its blue leaves with a bright yellow center in the spring and amazing in May as it turns orange-yellow or yellow-orange, the color of those Crayola crayons. Beautifully variegated all summer! Lavender flowers in July. $10

‘Powderpuff’ (Nyikos 2002) - (‘Halcyon’ X ‘Blue Dimples’) - Small-Medium, (11” X 24”) This “Tardiana” type is generously dusted with white wax giving it a heavily powdered appearance. ‘Prairie Sky’ PP#17,309 (H. Hansen/Shady Oaks Nursery, 2005) - [(seedling of H. rupifraga X ‘Maruba Iwa’) X ‘Blue Jay’] - Medium, (14” X 36”) This is a powdery-blue hosta with extra white wax on its gently cupped heart-shaped leaves. Stands out in the garden. Lavender flowers in July. $10

‘Spinach Soufflé’ (Solberg 2006) - (Sport of ‘Garden Treasure’, tetraploid?) Medium, (14” X 30”) Great bright color sells and this hosta has it. Almost round, rich green leaves with a very bright 2” gold margin grace this heavily substanced hosta. Slow growth rate to a mature clump but looks great in a pot as a young plant. Near white flowers in June. $15

‘Sugar and Spice’ (Zilis 2003) - (Sport of ‘Invincible’) - Medium, (20” X 42”) This hosta has the shine of a plastic plant, medium green with a bright cream to white margin, very exciting to the eye. It has good substance and makes an attractive somewhat upright clump. Grows well with very fragrant lavender flowers in August. $12

‘Whiskey Sour’ (Solberg 2002) - (‘Ogon Tsushima’ X H. yingeri) - Medium, (15” X 24”) Here’s a bright one to draw you out into the garden in early spring.
